Sri Lanka and Maldives Combined Journeys
Where to travel
Combining Sri Lanka and the Maldives is remarkably easy, with short direct flights of around 90 minutes linking the two and smooth onward connections from Sri Lanka’s international gateways. Beyond the logistics, the pairing works beautifully.
Sri Lanka offers culture, wildlife, and richly varied landscapes to explore, while the Maldives provides effortless relaxation and ocean-focused luxury. Together, they create a journey that feels perfectly balanced, immersive, and unhurried, followed by time to truly switch off.
We design tailor-made Sri Lanka and Maldives journeys that balance discovery with downtime, shaped entirely around how you want to travel.

Duration of a Sri Lanka and Maldives journey
Most Sri Lanka and Maldives journeys are best enjoyed over 10 to 16 days, allowing time to explore Sri Lanka at a relaxed pace before easing into 4 to 5 nights in the Maldives. We often recommend resorts reached by speedboat transfer, keeping arrivals and departures simple and allowing the focus to remain firmly on the experience. The transition from exploration to relaxation feels natural and unforced.
Pace of your Sri Lanka itinerary
Everyone travels differently. Some guests choose to pack more into their time in Sri Lanka, linking three or four locations to experience a wider mix of landscapes, wildlife and culture before heading on to the Maldives. Others prefer to slow things down, focusing on just one or two places and allowing more time in each. There is no right or wrong approach. Our role is simply to shape a Sri Lanka and Maldives itinerary that feels comfortable, natural and well balanced.

Choosing your resort in The Maldives
Choosing the right island sets the tone for your time in the Maldives. We look at the details that matter most, from budget and scale to atmosphere and design, whether that means a quietly elegant retreat or something more indulgent. Distance from the airport, villa style and resort size all influence the experience. Islands range from intimate hideaways with fewer than 40 rooms to much larger resorts, though we tend to favour the smaller, more characterful options. While most high-end resorts are not all inclusive, many offer half-board or full-board arrangements, with a small number of very high-quality all-inclusive options also available where they suit the style of the trip.
Best time to go
Sri Lanka and the Maldives can be combined successfully throughout much of the year. Sri Lanka’s varied climate means different regions are at their best at different times, allowing for year-round travel. In the Maldives, January to Aprilgenerally bring the most settled weather, with lower humidity and limited rainfall, making this the most popular time to visit. From May to September, conditions can be more changeable, but this period often offers excellent value for money, fewer visitors and plenty of sunshine between passing showers. July and August in particular should not be discounted, as both destinations can still offer rewarding travel experiences when planned carefully. We advise on the best timing and route to suit both destinations and your travel priorities.

Hotels in Sri Lanka that combine easily with the Maldives
When pairing Sri Lanka with the Maldives, we often suggest hotels that allow for a smooth and well-paced transition to the islands. Close to the airport, Rosyth Estate, just over two hours’ drive away, works beautifully at the start or end of a journey. Further afield, Ulagalla and Tekanda Lodge offer a strong sense of place without feeling overly remote. Cultural stays such as Fort Bazaar sit comfortably within a wider route, while hill country retreats like Glenross Estate and Water Garden Sigiriya combine depth and tranquillity with easy onward connections. Together, these properties allow Sri Lanka to be experienced thoughtfully before the journey eases naturally into the Maldives.

What our travellers say
We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.
