East Coast
Places to see
The island's eastern shores remain wonderfully untamed, where endless stretches of pristine beaches meet gently rolling waves, some perfect for surfing and others ideal for gentle swims. We include this coastline in our summer itineraries, as the weather is best from May to September.
Sri Lanka’s East Coast enjoys its high season between May and September, making this region an excellent option in the summer holidays. The coastline here generally feels very different from Sri Lanka's south coast, which is arguably busier and more rugged. In areas such as Kalkudah and Passikudah you'll find much calmer water, lighter sand and easier to swim in ocean, which means this stretch of coastline is great for families. You won't find the range of restaurants, surf cafes, and hotels in Passikudah that you will on the southern coast, but the benefits are the summer climate and the calm ocean.
