RAAS Chhatrasagar is a beautiful boutique safari-style camp in rural Rajasthan.
Perched on the side of a lake overlooking a dam, this tranquil spot is a paradise for birdwatchers; over 200 species frequent the area, including storks, flamingos and kingfishers.
Capacious tents face the lake, kitted out with plush beds, large bathtubs, heating, and air-conditioning. They’re soundproofed but you’re never far from birdsong here. At the all-day dining pavilion, they serve everything from pasta dishes to colourful salads, but the real jewel in the menu’s crown are the family curries, with recipes handed down from generations past.
The tents are relatively close together but they’ve recently made efforts to soundproof them
The lake can dry up early in the year if there’s no monsoon, meaning animal sightings are less frequent
A family-friendly property with dedicated family accommodation. Nature-loving children will appreciate the safari experience and waterside location but it’s probably best-suited to children above 4.
The water at every RAAS hotel is heated with solar power, and they’re working hard to reduce their water consumption. Each hotel grows its own herbs and vegetables, and anything not grown by the hotel is locally sourced. 70% of all labour and material used to construct each hotel comes from within a 30km radius, reducing the carbon footprint and supporting the local community where possible.
